Cobain just realized any such "Punk Ethos" is self-defeating. It could only make sense as masturbation.

Having an 'ethos' is not punk; it's sheeplike bourgeois elitism for the overeducated masses, like listening to Pink Floyd in sheepskin slippers.

na, punk could not have appealed without its ethos, for it was unethical to think of those self proclaimed gods of the hippy era getting their kicks for everyone while convincing themselves that they were made of stardust!

Much as some punk bands (like DK or SP, for example) are worshiped as gods (made of stardust?) by punk fans.

na, no chance, i saw Johnny live in the Glasgow barrowlands, he stopped twice complaining of the adulation of people spitting on him. eventually someone was so overcome and starstruck that they threw a bottle at him and it hit him on the head, but not before he had played pretty vacant. shame he never got to play anarchy.

Johnny complained because he realizes the contradiction, just like Cobain did.

Well, he's educated, he made it through the post-punk phase.

I think that some of you are typecasting punk in way that fails to see the actual broad range of sounds that it had.

There was much more to it then anarchy and violence.

I am, somewhat reminded of he apostle Paul, who when in Corinth, had to refrain the people from sacrificing to himself because they suspected that he may be a manifestation of Zeus, 'the Gods are among us they cried' in order to do so, he literally stage dived into the crowd and ripping his garments apart, exclaimed ', i am also flesh and blood'! - Acts 14:11-15 🙂 the first recorded instance of the Punk Ethos?

I doubt it's the first recorded instance of the punk ethos.

But your posting is further proof you've 'jumped the shark!!'

Sounds more like Freddy Mercury.

Orpheus was the first known rock star, even got shredded by his fans.
