Something that could go under "dadaistic poem" without anyone getting suspicious.

Not at all sure I have a frame of reference for the contemporary text
abbreviations of your message but will keep on digging away with the
the pick and shovel issued. Again, thanks. You guys and gals are sort
of keeping me young. Guess that's a scary enough thought in itself.

that could be just about anything, couldn't it? but if just about anything could be a poem, doesn't that dilute the concept of 'poem' to the point where it is essentially useless?

That's the point (and it was the dadaists' point, at least sort of).

but isn't 'poetry' a useful concept, one that we want to keep? in which case, why not simply deny that a so-called dadaist poem is really a poem at all?

Actually, if you hear a dadaistic sound poem performed, it does have a poetic quality. I think that just as with music, whether we perceive something as poetry has to do just as much with the recipient as with the writer.

i think i agree with your second sentence. but if a dadaistic poem has poetic qualities, to what extent is it a dadaistic poem?

Ice, all eleven words in your conclusive, colorful and gently
dismissive sentence speak of a sophisticated, tactile reality
which could neither fit within nor ever evolve from a soup can.
