My chess games are a repeat of themselves, the white moves the pawn in front of the king forward, then the black does the same, then the horse jumps foeward....every single game. I have tryd different openings but I always lose when I do these.
Does anyone know any strong openings which are good for someone not to brilliant at chess?

1. d4 d5 2. e3...put the bishop on d3 and go for f4 pawn push with Nf3 thereafter....have to watch e5 after ...Nf6 though, usually can hold with Nbd2....also have to watch knight penetration to b4 after ...Nc6, can cover with c3. A fun opening, and very minimal memorization required.
As black vs 1. e4: Caro-Kann Defense
1. ...c6 2. d4 d5 is one example, many variations...fun and considered very solid. Get a book on it...when up against better players, they usually have the overused Sicilian lines memorized out the ying-yang...this will give you a slight edge in those situations, or at least help you stay alive for an interesting game.
Good luck.
