His official website said of "natural causes." Also donations to The American Cancer Society. Who knows how he died. He did have a problem with drugs which landed him in prison. That bass riff through "Super Freak" will go down as one of the most recognizable tunes ever.

Yea, it's a sad day. Rick James was one of the most creative musicians out there.

Word is that he wrote a whole bunch of songs while in prison. Does anyone know if they ever got released?

sigh. I can find my cds from just about every major funk band ever -- kool and the gang, ohio players, p-funk, cameo, gap band, brothers johnson, lakeside, earth wind and fire, james brown, sly & the family stone, even herbie hancock... but I have no idea where my rick james is.

Give It to Me, Baby was one of the coolest songs ever. It says "natural causes" but, man, his lifestyle was bound to get him eventually.

This may cheer some of you up, though.

Hammer jacked the riff from "Super Freak" for my personal anthem, "Can't Touch This". By the way Phlabibibibibibibibit, GO SOX
