The Way Things Work
(1) Chess is an easy game to learn (only six pieces, a few rules). Improving your game and playing well requires stronger opponents.
(2) Children are thirsty sponges. Early they utilize all three means of perception: experiencing some things; figuring other things out;
taking some things on faith (from someone whose authority they accept). The result is that they grow in mental and emotional stature,
and become maturing adults. (3) Adults who stop learning and maturing regress/develop blindspots of ignorance. The process creates
a vacuum which sucks in anything convenient or counterfeit in sight. Eventually it cultivates awkward dependencies and low self esteem.
