Just the other day I watched a ball game. Not just any ball game, but little league t-ball. In its own way, it really made me feel old. But after I got over that, I watched further still as these little kids (I'm guessing between 4 and 7) continued on playing their game. It lasted only 5 innings, but for these kids, I saw the innocence of a children just having a blast with an outdoor game.
I was never in a t-ball league. Back when I was a youngster, there was no such thing, but the thrill of the game was there. I won't dare make the comparison to the big leagues, or with the teams in the little league world series. It wouldn't be fair to any group involved. This is more based on kids having fun.
Its hard to imagine anyone missing a ball on a tee, but I saw several whiffs. What I didn't see was anyone telling the ones who missed that they were no good, losers, or any other downtrodden word you could come up with. Lots of encouragement for them to try it again. The amount of outfield errors was hugh. But what can you expect with this age group.
I bowl as well, just as a small tidbit about myself. I am considered a very good amatuer. I maintain an average of 192. I was never given the opportunity to bowl with bumpers when I was a kid. It just wasn't thought of yet. Now I take my kids, or my nephews bowling, and I just watch the eyes light up when they hit pins. None of them have even considered bowling a career or even a good pasttime. but there is thrill I see in them becuase they are able to do it. My daughters are getting good enough not to need bumpers now, but were encouraged because of them.
I think, more to the point, is the fact that there is a thrill in children that gets lost once we become adults. We seem to forget the age of innocence, the fun in just of playing the game. Not needing to win as much as have fun playing.

Originally posted by KJCavalierI would agree that adults lose a lot of the innocence of being young and carefree. Then again adults have responsibilities and know that the world isn`t all flowers and candy. Its kinda sad. It is nice however to see kids having fun.

So, you put the ball on the tee, (TREE?), and ... hang on.
Who's on first base?
