This guy put his life on the line to rescue a little 8 yo girl when he recognized the truck the girl was taken in. Fresno California.
After reading earlier of the abduction--- complete with pictures of a beautiful, pre-pubescent girl, dressed in her Winnie-the-Pooh sweatshirt (for purposes of helping identify her)--- I was facing the dismal reality of what inevitably happens in these situations: her tortured, beaten body found weeks, months, years later in some anonymous field, her family's only solace the relief of closure.
To later hear of her salvation, the miracle of her redemption by some nondescript migrant worker who was informed and emboldened by his love for the helpless innocents in his circle of family and friends, I openly wept as though my own child had been mercifully placed back in my arms.
There will be other heroism displayed in the year 2010, but for me as a father, brother and son, this story will be the one drenched in grace, in gratitude.
