Why is it ghosts can move through walls and can’t pick things up and yet are always depicted standing on the floor?

Time machines; for example in the movies The Time Machine (both of them) and the spin-off Time After Time, the Time Machine and its occupant travel through time in a static machine for hundreds or even hundreds of thousands of years, but always end up on earth instead of stranded in space as the earth would not be in the same place as when they left.

Lack of 'equal and opposite force' rules whenever a fired bullet can lift someone off their feet. Think Magnum etc.

Space ships roar past, go 'boom' when they blow up, and phasers go 'phssssssst', in outer space.
