Interesting post.

Why do you think Barcelona had such an easy time of it?

Did United do anything right?

In retrospect do you think United could of played differently in some way, changed tactics or personel to make the game more competitive?

Or do you think Barcelona with this team are always going to walk all over united?
I think this has been answered but briefly, perhaps the best chance any team like United would have, of beating Barca, is on a filthy wet night complete with overly muddy pitch. Such talent would ordinarily get bogged down, cannot play their own usual game of effortlessly knocking the ball about, inch perfect passing...and perhaps this would give rise to a frustrating temper ridden game for them. Certainly trying to play them at their own game, as United did, it showed their depth wasn't comparable. United's defence is maybe one of the best but when faced with such talent linking midfield to attack, they had little chance...once on the ball Barca could dominate at leisure, they did and could've gone up a further gear had United shown much attacking prowess. Yep, the only way to beat that lot is to pray long and hard to the god's of rain and mud 😛

Yes I agree Barcelona are the best club in the world but they are beatable on a given day.

I think the Liverpool team of 5 or 6 years ago had a team and the tactics to beat Barcelona of today. Pack the midfield with real quality and patiently wait for a break. Boring to watch but effective.

United today kept Messi fairly contained, its not lik ...[text shortened]... not saying they would of won, just made more of a game of it if they had changed formation IMO.
Well when Fergie vacates Old Trafford, please let me know how you get on at the job interview 😛

The "rated" thrashed the "over rated"
Every position on that pitch Barcelona controlled (with ease ) .
I dont know if it's more luck or good judjement , but Bacelona had 11 players on that pitch that worked as one ! fantastic team ,best i have seen since Brazil in the 1970 world cup !!

Manchester United started the game better and Barcelona actually looked uncomfortable. "Completely wrong" is quite the overstatement, what would you have done?

Um yeah. Making such bold statements is never a good idea. I wonder what he will have to say today, if anything.

For me there's no reason to keep flaming Barca (here). We all know they cheat. We all know the refs let them. We all know UEFA wont do anything about it.

Wenger knew it and commented on it. Mourinho knew it and made allegations. And soon we'll hear Ferguson say it.
I have news for you.

After the match yesterday Ferguson proved himself to be a better man than both you and Mourinho. He may have a reputation for being a grumpy old git, but he showed that he can rise above it. Ferguson, clearly, is a man. Mourinho is not, and neither are you.

True, and true, but their domination only lasted ten minutes or so. After that, it was Barca almost all the way.

Oh, and did you note the almost complete lack of Schwalbes? Apparently, when they don't have to play against shin-kickers like Real, Barca doesn't fall over all that much. I wonder why... In fact, the only egregious sample I noticed was by Rooney.

What Mourinho did: don't give 'm an inch, defend forward, put a butcher on Messi, kick the crap out of them whenever you can and pretend it was the ball, land on purpose on their legs and tell the world he was diving, start a war in the press, blame the ref anytime his descision is not in your favour.

After his (Ferguson) team were totally out classed ,what could he say ?
His mid field was shockingly bad ,they struggled to string passess together while Barca did it effortlessly .Man u were taken out of their comfort zone (premier ) and dismantled with ease ! You cannot give the ball away so cheaply to a side like Barca and get away with it . I doubt it was good grace from Fergie but more eating humble pie !
