Aaah, so 1" is one foot? I always thought that 1" meant one inch. (We use the metric system in Sweden for anyone who didn't know.) I pictured a tiny, tiny man in my head. 🙂

I still don't see how that would lead to your conclusion. 6'3'' = 6 foot 3 inches, and if that's the length of the spine, 12 foot sounds like a good estimate of the length of the whole body. No?
