thumbs up vs thumbs down

I give thumbs up to anything witty or original.

Thumbs down I use for racists and other bigots, ... mainly on Debates.

In addition to "thumbs up vs. thumbs down",
why not offer the option of a thumbs sideways to be used
when you're pondering an against the grain reply?
