HI, juust to make sure you're clear on this - you don't necessarily challenge someone who is currently on line. As this is correspondence you can challenge/accept the chalenge for someone who is currently off line and they will return their move when they are next on line.
Games are rarely finished in 1 sitting and some games last for months, depending on how quickly the players chose to move. There are limits on how long yo have to make each move, 3 -21 days, which can be chosen as options when you create a game (or alternatively seen in the description before you accept a game created by someone else).
I hope you're settling in. It's very different from 'live' chess but it is an excellent way to play.

i always try to challenge an online opponent: they will play now.
you find these people at
>Player Tables > Last Move
i also like to check if they will be here tomorrow
so i check their profile (simply click on their name) and see how often they FINISH games (slide your cursor across the green part of the rating graph) - without a massive string of timeouts seen by a radical slide of ratings.
just above their graph is the challenge button. it is only fair to make one as white and one as black.
even easier is to subscribe, and join a clan ;-)

Oh, and I'd be happy to play you myself, but I'm a VERY slow mover. Just ask Flexmore... 😳
