After hearing so many people complain that they have been timed out while on vacation I feel compelled to say that I have just returned from the massive break of 25 days (mainly business with some holiday tacked on the end) during which I had no net access (thank US customs for dropping my laptop) to find that no one, not a sole, has timed me out. 16 games waiting, 14 angry red clocks and 2 waining timebanks, and not a single loss. 😀
Thank you to my patient opponents, you know who you are. I just hope you'll continue to be patient as I work through my pile of work and our games over the next few days.

Originally posted by belgianfreakMost people are pretty good at not timing you out i think the issue is with tournaments that automatically timeout after two days even if you are on holiday and vaction sign is showing. I move fast and i cannot change peoples moving habits which isnt a problem for most games, but my tournamnets suffered with the loss of 50 games.

Croc. 🙄
Two things:
1. Prior to going away for five days I notified each opponent individually before posting my 'holiday' sign
2. I have postponed entering a tournament because I knew that I was going to be on holiday
and thirdly ..........
many of my opponents sent messages saying 'have a nice time!'

i will time out most people regardless of their vacation setting,
but i would not have timed you out because i would have gone for a 28 day timebank, allowing you 28 days of vacation, and we would be back in business !!!!

Good to have you back, hope you've had a nice time! Looking forward to resuming our game 😉

My only chance to move would have been before breakfast or after drinking, neither of which would have been wise as I'd either be asleep or drunk, potentially both. Anyway, US customs obviously noticed my addictionand broke my PC for me in an attempt to help, so no late night/early morning move fests were possible.
Where have you lot been going on holiday; Katmandu? The Antarctic?
Ever heard of internet cafes?
After that I was walking a mountain range, where internet has not yet reached (I was glad they had discovered fire!)

for the reason I said - it'll take me a few days to get on top of my work and move in all my games. During that time my games will still be past TO and if my vacation icon suddenly disappears then a hurried opponent might forget why I'm late moving and claim TO. I believe this is one opf the reasons the system was changed so that we could move while the vacation icon was still on.

I wasn't aware of this rule; so for how long after you return from vacation are you allowed to leave your vacation flag on?
that's debatable. The whole vacation icon is a bit of an honour system. I try not to think of it as a 'vacation' icon (although this is probably the most common use) but rather as an indication that I can't play as usual for one reason or another (travelling for work, PC death...). Therefroe I'll stop using it once I have caught up and normal play has resumed (in a few days).

I am beginning to see why the whole issue of time outs and vacation flags generates such heated debates!
