i have a taxi driver friend.
He says he cant understand why people tip him as they have paid for the journey already !
But seriously, I tip taxi drivers if they are friendly, helpful, courteous or just get me from A to B without messing about.
If you get a taxi frequently, and you tip well it can also make the drivers more willing to choose the job from your house if they recognise the address.
