I was interested in seeing how many players in in top 100 represent their respective countries, and I thought I would post my information for everyone to see. This is based off of the flags of course, and 9 out of the top 100 rated players decide not to display their flag. And I am not sure if anyone has done this already but here it is, country and number of players in the top 100 rated players are from the country.
United States: 14
Netherlands: 12
England: 7
United Kingdom:7
India: 5
Portugal: 5
Wales: 5
Denmark: 4
Germany: 4
Canada: 3
New Zealand: 3
Poland: 3
Argentina: 2
Austria: 2
Hungary: 2
The following countries have one in the top 100 rated players.
Afghanistan, Australia, Belguim, Brazil, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Myanmar. Slovakia, South Africa, Spain
I just thought this might interest some of you.

Well, players can list themselves as either British (with a British flag) or English, Welsh, Scots etc. Why is the flag of the UK a British flag though, since the regions which together form GB are only part of the UK? Are there any N. Irish in the top 100?
btw the butchers apron represent the flags of northern ireland, england and scotland. its the welsh flag that is not reprensented!

Starting in two weeks, I'm going to spend at least most of the next four years living in the UK, so I probably should know something about it!
I see you're from near Glasgow. I've only been there once, and only to change trains, but at least the coffee I found was ok π.

1. Wales 5 in 2.8 million - 1.8 per million
2. New Zealand 3 in 3.9 million - 0.77 per million
3=. Netherlands 12 in 16 million - 0.75 per million
3=. Denmark 4 in 5.3 million - 0.75 per million
5. Portugal 5 in 10 million - 0.5 per million
(If all 7 UK flags represent people in Scotland, they would be in 2nd place, if they all represent people Northern Ireland, they would be first by a long way)

Not exactly, by per capita I mean the population of the nation/region/country expressed as a figure when divided by the number of players. I think?

The stat that Skeeter was suggesting might be very interesting indeed, but requires more work. Didn't Russ have a stat with the number of members per country?
