Does the Kessel deal make you happy inside? Pretty steep price for an injured guy, I think it will be a high draft pick.

It's actually three high draft picks. A first and second rounder next year and a first the year after. I believe that's a fair market price for a 21 year old (!) who scored 36 goals in 70 games at the pro level last year.

The injury is not a concern. He'll be on the ice within a month or two. The deal is for five years. Try to see the forest for the trees.

Not many trees in the forest these days when your an Oilers fan. More like saplings in the form of Comrie. I like the kessel deal, do yiu know if he played with Savard last year?

Yep. He was with Savard for most of his goals. We'll see this year how many of those goals were indebted to him. I remain optimistic though.

The Oilers have a better coach now, that's for sure. You guys will be in the playoff mix. Don't take what's happened in the preseason too much to heart. (Pretty ironic, me saying that, I know).

maybe the oilers new coach will finally play rob schrempf! That guy is a sniper but MacT refused to play him and left him to rot in the minors.

If the damage hasn't already been done, you put this guy on the number one line and you'll see 60+ points this year and 80+ the year after.

The guy is Alex Kovalev reborn

You should have taken your own advice when you bet me the cash that the leafs will beat the habs in the standings this year.

The real question is, "WHy was Boston willing to part with Kessel?" Simple.

Boston gets Toronto's next 2 First round picks. Toronto will finish bottom 5 for the next 2 years which means Boston will get 2 great players for the cost of one (kessel). Boston is likely to finish near the top of the standings this year which means they would not get a good first round pick without this deal.

This trade enable them to stock up on 2 more. Meanwhile, the leafs now have zero first round picks meaning they cannot get any better than they are now. They have to trade their good players now in order to get a high first round pick.

This is counter productive since although you gain a good player via a draft, you lose a good player via the trade.

I don't see how this trade helps the leafs in the long run. All it does is make them a better team right now, but it's still not enough to get them into the playoffs and definitely not enough to be a stanley cup contender!

So, if you are the leafs...why did you make this deal??? The only way for you to get better is by getting good players via the draft to ADD to your team. You only trade away draft picks when you are going to make a run for the playoffs. Dumb Dumb Dumb

Once again, the leafs drop the ball.
