I am still fairly new to this and just entered a tournament. (tournament id -12046 - June 2011 Banded Long Haul 1400-1450 - 38 - Open to new entrants.) If this were to begin now with 38 entered, how many games would I begin with? Thanks in advance for your help.

If there are not an even number of entrants then one group would have three people in it instead of two, so if you end up in one of those groups you would play four games in that round. Two against each of the other players in that group.
So the answer to your question should be either two or four games at one time for each round.
I have not played that many tournaments so hopefully this is the correct answer.

You need to look at the group size for the specific tournament. The more people in the group the more games you play at one time for that round.
With a group size of 8, that means you and 7 other people. With 7 people and two games against each, that is 14 games. The tournament you specified in the original post has a group size of only 2. So you only play one other person at a time for each round.
I hope that clears it up. Maybe someone else here with more tournament experience can jump in and give better information.
Maybe you should ask your question in the help or tournament forum for a better answer.

No, I'm sorry it doesn't make sense. The other toournament I entered had 8 including me and I had 14 games to open up. 7 white and 7 as black. Would that mean with 38 entered, I would have 37 white and 37 black games for a total of 74??
The group size in THIS tournament is 2. That means you and one other person. You play 2 games against this one other person, for a total of 2 games. If you win you go on to Round 2, where you again play one other person, and get 2 more games. This continues until you lose a round or until you win the tournament.
