i think there should be more tournaments open to non - subscribers so that they can get a better taste of the site. this will help more non - subscribers become subscribers.

That was my thinking too - but rather surprisingly, it doesn't seem to work out that way.

why not just let them in to the very occasional VERY BIG tournament, and let us in too if we want.

that way a small number cannot abuse the priveledge over and over, but they can all have a try every 4 months or so.

I disagree...

One of the main reasons why I subscribed (at least initially) was to participate in tournaments (Clans weren't that interesting whilst being a non-subscriber). If you open tournaments to non-subscribers then these will never sign up ... Especially if these tournaments are big tournaments where good players are likely to at least get into a second, possible third round ... By that time, the next non-subscriber tournament is open and here we go... Having a non-subscriber reaping the same benefits as subribers ...

Don't get me wrong Russ, this is just my own personal point of view and I would be more then happy to play along in tournaments with non-subscribers but from a business point of view, me in your position, I wouldn't do it.

Have you concidered the turnover of people at the site? I'd say that if 1 in 4 people who come to the site are still here 6 months later then that would be a lot, but even if that were the case you'd have a 1 in 16 chance that both players were around to finish the tourney match. HOw can atourney worrk when 15/16 matches are won by T/O because one player has left. And worse, 1/4 of the matches would be drawn because both player would have left and neither made a move.

To run a tourney you need people who are going to stick around for a while. Subscribing is th eonly way I can think of signifying that you probably will be. It'd not be much of an advert for the site for newbies to try to enter a tourneythat just fell apart.

disclaimer - it's monday morning & I've a headache, so if my maths is wrong feel free to correct me but go easy on me.

if it was a rare tournament, but large enough to let all the contenders have a go, then it would not be enough to keep the genuine players fully satisfied for long - they would still want to subscribe.

lets say it was a 3 round tournament group size 6 (6x6x6 = 216 players) then the first round would be dominated by timeouts; the second and third rounds would be good games.

choosing the time limits would be critical.

p.s. i am just tossing ideas out there - i am not all that familiar with the issues involved here.
