First see Belgium, drink some beer and meet SirLoseALot, and after that ride a few hours north to the Netherlands, get high in Amsterdam and meet some nice people that only exist in your mind, Trav was probably high as well when he met all those nice people...!πŸ˜›

Vist Haarlem and we can meet and play some chess...πŸ™‚

Do they still allow canal ice skating in Brugge during the winter? Last time I was there it hadn't iced up, but apparently it is quite 'cool' (boom boom)

Belgian beer is very good by the way: though personally i'd put the japanease as world's best. but as its a matter of taste, that opinion is about as much use as, well, any of my opinions quite frankly! πŸ™‚

In terms of the 2006 World cup venue, despite some reports to the contary, the reason that the Scots voted for Germany over england was that German beer is much better. We're a simple folk with simple needs... πŸ™‚

Hello,

I'm currently taking a year out of schooling, before university and I'm looking for suggestions on places to see on my travels. I'm considering some sort of world tour thing, so if anybody knows of anywhere I should visit, then I'd greatly appreciate the help.

thanks, (in advance)

Jim
God, that's a hard one. There's nowhere quite like India in my book, for the jolting culture shock of cows in the middle of the road, throngng crowds and ancient temples crammed into tiny side streets. The ruins in Mexico, Pero and Cambodia are all fantastic, but a personal favourite of mine - for the insane quantity of wildlife - is the Pantanal in central Brazil. Driving through there is like starring in a highlights programme of David Attenborough documentaries.

Rich.

Just thought I'd thank everybody for their suggestions. I'm now planning to do a world-tour type thing of the east coast of america, spend a bit of time in Fiji and Hawaii and then move onto New zealand for a little while before going to Japan or Hong Kong. Sometime after that and I've got some money back together I'm planning on taking pyrro's advice and going backpacking through the majority of Eastern Europe. I then plan on moving across scandinavia and then down into belgium (I'm gonna have to try the bear after so many good recommendationsπŸ˜›).

Chess would be good, there's very few people I know in my area that play regularly. I'll mention this closer to the time I'm off though.

Again many thanks,
Jim

oh i really can't remember the name, i dont think i saw it from the beginning. it was some really random old film about this boy who was a hockey player and then had an accident and died but got sort-of reincarnated into this girl's body, except she was like 18. and the ozzi ozzi ozzi oi oi oi bit was what his hockey team said before all their matches. it was kind of like bill's new frock but less realistic.

Considering that St. Petersburg is the most beautiful town in Europe, that would be my suggestion. Besides, if you prepare a bit, you can visit some of the oldest chess clubs in the world - the places where a lot of the world champions started...

I never saw the film either. That cheer is just something Aussies say when they're excited and full of national pride, or to get each other excited. You can scream "Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!" in the middle of meeting, a musem, a church service, whatever, and everyone will reply "Oi! Oi! Oi!"
