i was clueless about the anime until today
i must admit, when i realized the producers of the show were going to attempt to out-bloodlet tarantino, i nearly went elsewhere for entertainment but one of the first guys to die horribly was carrying a disruptor

i was hooked

God, I love Tarentino, the blood doesn't bother me. I watched Uma Thurman slash her way through a whole gang of people in Kill Bill, so I'm immune to it by now, plus I love the camp he sometimes throws out there. I might have to break down and watch the show.

If you're into anime at all, that's an all-time great. It's not terribly long, roughly 26 episodes.
