I use BT broadband. I'm very impressed with most of it, there was a little bit of teething trouble, but that was more to do with the phone line itself, not BT. I've had no problems with it, however, it does depend on where you live as the local exchange needs to be updated to a newer model and they only did this in my area after a petition reached 300 names. If you live in or near a major city or town this has already been done.

When I was living in the UK I had BT Openworld - The service was fine, they had a few outages - but they locked me into a 12 month contract 🙁 ... My girlfriend used ZEN (http://www.zen.co.uk/) - They had a 3 month contract, were cheaper and gave out a block of 8 (6 usable) static IP addresses. Zen had a much better deal.

Am thinking about getting broadband and just wondered if anyone here uses broadband (in the UK). If so, which ISP do you use and what do you think of it? Would be interested to hear from anyone but particularly those who use either Nildram, Pipex, Eclipse, or BT Openworld.
Cheers,
T
I have used BT and NTL in the past. Both are excellent. I can no longer imagine life without broadband (I was one of the first in the country to get ADSL when it was out of trial -and I just take it for granted now.)
In fact, it was almost the deciding factor when I moved house 2 years ago. No broadband? No good.
If you think you use the 'net too much now, wait until you have an always on connection (coupled with an always on pc like me) - it is impossible to walk past it without 'just checking your mail'.
Say bye-bye to your life!

[Having said all that, I thought you were of travelling soon? Surely not worth signing up for a long contract if you are off gallivanting?]

Also, the internet is never down for weeks sometimes just a couple of days.

schools broadband is not as fast or as reliable simply because there are so many people using it at one time, a network will make any connection unstable as all it takes is a few people to load a large page at the same time to freeze it up. the school may not have just one connection either, as 576k between 1500 students equals?
as they are all trying to work together and we never play by the rules on the network the network is put under alot of pressure resulting in its crashing, usually as you are about to send that important e-mail or do some real work.
-have broadband, very happy, its fast, reliable, and is gonna be the death of my a-levels-

I use telewest broadband and wouldn't go back! The main reason I got it was to stop dropped connections during online games (MTGO) which happened with great regularity on my dial up! Soooo many games wrecked!
But now I've got it, my prolems have changed. Now I want it available at the drop of a hat, but my PC is too noisey to leave on. And then I saw the new Hush 'silent' PC. Its sooooo cool. Can I justify the cost? No. But I want to...
I'm going to build a quiet mini-itx or micro ATX soon-ish so I can get the most out of the broadband connection: then leave the pc on / in standby, and then access the net with a second or two delay whenever I want. Lovely.

Unlike before I now have a great job and a tyrannical lady - both of which should be more than enough to prevent me getting worryingly hooked ... (he says).
Am going through the ordering stages for Pipex broadband. 'Tis a rather excited squirrel lover that types 😀

PS. Forget all that about the job and the woman keeping me in check (oo-er, a chess pun): Rhymester! Race ya to 100,000 😉
