which is the best: rugby league, rugby union (yay!) or american football? i'd say union. why? well, bacause it's much more flowing and nicer to watch/play. with league and football, the game is stopped every few seconds/minutes-but not with union! i can't really talk about football-but with league it's just some big blokes runnging at other big blokes with the odd brwakaway or kick. but with union, you have rucks and malls-slighly more exciting than kicking a ball between your legs...and there are more breakaways/kicks (there's less risk in kicking with union)...so-which is better?!?

League doesn't stop every few seconds. Tackles take a fraction longer than most rucks in union. There's also more exciting passages of play in league, mainly due to there being less players (and therefore more room to move). Also only half a team in league is big big, the rest are the fast men. Breaks are very common, and kicks even more so than union. And don't even get my started on gridiron.
As I can't prove it over a forum you'll all just have to take my word on it. League is a much better brand of footy .😏

but football-with their pads? wtf?!?

Originally posted by geniusI have a sneaking suspicion that before long the union and league crowds (even if the latter only consists of me) will shake hands, join forces, and turn their combined powers on the hapless yanks with their curious game consisting of two foot shoulder pads and a tiny kids ball.

Regardless of how good or bad gridiron actually is, it's just too easy to make fun of I'm afraid. While the league/union argument has long since been declared a stalemate.
Originally posted by dylI can appreciate your point. I have only skimmed a few games of rugby on tv. The AVERAGE american pro footall lineman is 6'5" weighing 290lbs. Bench pressing 485lbs. Running a forty yard time of 5.0. Rugby athletes appear to be smaller, more agile, but do you really think they could line up? Mentally-sure / tough wise- ABSOLUTELY! But physically?

Originally posted by Coach Prerugby teams are split into 2 parts-the forwards and the backs. the backs are the agile, light ones, while the forwars are usually much more powefull and heavy (and ugly...😉). you'll usually get a comparison of pack weights-which is the average weight of the forwards. this is about 18 stone for scotland, while newzeland are about 22 stone. which is heavy considering that the back row are usually lighter still then the front row...the front row consisting of only 3 players. back rows are usually also very tall and have a high power to weight ratio which allows them to be strong, fast and heavy. props (2/3rds of the front row) are usually fat slobs who are just there for the weight-or at least in scotland west division B they are...😛

Welcome coach.Hope you are going to have a blast.I am a union man.League seems boring to me.(Awaiting a fierce attack from Dylan)Grid Iron is Greek to me.I have no clue as to what happens there.I have heard that union will never take off in the US as the game is too short and does not allow for enough ad breaks.Pity really.
As far as Australian Rules goes, not for me thank you.Why dont they have sleeves and why does the guy behind the posts use his hands to indicate the size of his... erm anyway.
I find Union the most entertaining by a long way from League. Especially going to see games live or watching the local lads play on a Sunday. I've not watched much American Football but from what I have seen the game just doesn't seem to flow. England to win the World Cup :o)
My favourite Rugby of all though is this one: http://www.rugbyunited.co.uk/Home.htm 😀
Originally posted by Dr. BrainDon't you start Johan. Union flows a little better than league, but lacks flair. The structure of league allows for more excitment (in my opinion). Coach Pre, don't let yourself be swayed by popular opinion! If you want to have a taste of a different code of footy, keep on clicking until you hit a league game 😉.

Afl...Trekkie, my poor man, hopefully you're not too far gone for saving. Well, considering you're a swans fan, perhaps you are :'(.
Edit: Incidentally, I just realized I missed an opportunity at a joke concerning the similarities of certain ancient Greek pastimes and present day gridiron. Maybe next time.
