I know you have to be a member to be able to use this but I feel that some who can use it abouse it. I am currently playing a person and the game is driving me crazy. Its a 21 day mover which is annoying but my own fault as I should have checked when I accepted the open invite and the guy never moves and whenever it comes near the time that he has to he puts the vacation sign on. This guy is either mega rich as that sign is on so often and no one goes on holiday that much or he is using it so he can never be timed out. I think there should be a limit to how often they can use the vacation sign as its not fair to use it simply so you can never be timed out.

There is a limit - Subscribers get 36 days vacation in each calendar year.

I know the person in question, Surtism, and can confirm that he is mega rich.

When I last spoke to him he advised that he had just bought two more properties in Saudi Arabia at a cost of £120,000,000.

He is extremely busy at present but tries to make moves within the agreed time limit. He is hoping that he will be able to move in your game sometime today or tomorrow.

If this is Surtism that we're talking about, I have played against him and it is common knowledge that he and his wife had a baby last year which put a huge damper on his available playing time - that's why the downward trend on his graph. He's a very nice guy and if he is not going to be able to move in the allotted time he will resign rather than let you hang out there.

If you're not a subscriber, now you know the downfall of entering into a 21 day movement time limit. Games like that go agonizingly slow and being a non subscriber you basically have a 5 game limit now because you're in a game like that. It's just the way it goes.

I did the same thing when I started and the 21 day game took so long to get going that I just went ahead and subscribed so that it wouldn't be an issue. In the absence of subscribing, you'll just have to consider it a lesson learned for next time and don't get into longer time controls if you don't have the patience to allow the other player to play within his/her legal time controls. πŸ˜‰

I'm playing him 21/21 too, but it isn't a problem for me as a subscriber. Most of his recent absences were due to a failure of his ISP, and he's been busy apologising when he can get online. Life sometimes gets in the way. If it really bugs you, why not just resign the game?

I'm not complaining about it being 21 days, as I said in my original post it was my own fault and lesson learned, it was about his constant use of the vacation sign. I've since learned that the person in question has a baby so that might be why he doesn't move that much, or it might have more to do with his having hundreds of games running at one time. I couldn't concntrate on that many games at once, maybe he wanted to see if he could do it and challenge himself.

There was a guy named Atri or somesuch who started 1000s of games and then put his vacation flag up. There were a couple of forum threads about him, and then Surtism raised the question of whether 2000 games was possible. Thread 113560. The people who participated knew about the project, obviously you were one of the unlucky few who didn't. He was doing fine until real life intervened. He only put his vacation flag up for a short period when he was actually having a real vacation, and it certainly isn't up now.

Isn't the Vatican sign a cross, crossed keys and a pope's miter?

yeah, i played him about seven or eight times while he was trying to get to 2000 - he always moved on time - even for a while after the baby came, but then the load just became too much i think. really nice guy. didn't stop me from skulling him in six of the games tho. mwuhahahhaaaaa.

Challenge Russ! He never has a vacation flag up, and hasn't posted in Site for weeks. It's plain obvious he's on vacation, but he didn't even have the decency to put up a flag, or inform me our game would be delayed. I am going to skull him! πŸ˜›
