Venereal disease...

Venereal disease is a quite a good thing, in the qualified sense that the acronym (VD) provides a useful social transmission metaphor and

working title for this mutually beneficial Vocabulary (Dictionary) Building thread. Do the gracious thing or huff and puff negatively. Your call.

'Vocabulary/Dictionary' Word for the Day

#1. STUPOR: Noun. Middle 14th Century, from the Latin stupere, stupure... a condition of greatly dulled senses. A state of extreme apathy,

torpor, lethargy, insensibility resulting from stress, shock or daze. Lack of critical cognitive function and viable level of consciousness, wherin

the sufferer is almost entirely unresponsive and capable of responding only to base stimuli. IMO a spirit of stupor often pervades this forum.

I refuse to have a dictionary in the house now, because my first wife used to describe me to her friends as a model husband, which inflated my ego, until I looked in the dictionary and found MODEL: noun, a small imitation of the real thing. 🙂
