Once I was sitting in my car in a mall parking lot and watched a young man get out of his car and walk to the entrance. I said to myself, "This guy is going to get into trouble." A few minutes later a police car pulls up and soon the same young man is led away in handcuffs. Vibes? Wild guess? Coincidence?
I think what happened was I was subconsciously reading body language, eye movements, etc that the guy was exhibiting. Something about his behavior was out of the ordinary and visble.
There is no such thing as vibes in the sense of something like radio waves coming out of the human body. We have the technology to pick up the electro-magnetic spectrum and we don't see anything that would be a "vibe". We CAN pick up physical signals from the body; the lie detector relies on breathing and sweat. Some people are trained and experienced in reading the reactions of the human body (police, counselors fortunetellers, wives ๐ ). No magic vibes, just science learning about the human body.

Vibes
They "emanate" from everything, because everything gives off information about something, but mostly the emanate from things that are important to you, like people or dramatic events in life. I don't know if gender is a factor. They are very useful, but reliable? What does that mean?
I pay attention to vibes, but I don't rely on them, so I guess they're not reliable. They're like a policeman's hunch - you still need evidence to prove that you're right, and to get the details.

What is a "bad vibe"? A general feeling of impending doom? Knowing that the man right in front of you will at 4:22 be arrested by three police officers (one a woman)?
If you feel general "bad vibes" you can always pin it on something. If you try to predict specific events it's harder to say the vibes were reliable. We were offered this example:
Once I was sitting in my car in a mall parking lot and watched a young man get out of his car and walk to the entrance. I said to myself, "This guy is going to get into trouble." OK. So would the vibe have been reliable if that guy had had a shouting match with his girlfriend? What about if he got in trouble ten years down the road? In this case there was a dramatic event showing the vibe to be accurate, but is such an event necessary for the vibe to be reliable?
When talking about "vibes" the topic is so vague that one cannot evaluate it in terms of "usually reliable".
EDIT - I get "bad vibes" sometimes when I have something to do and I'm procrastinating. Sometimes it takes a while to figure it out. They wake me up to the fact that I need to get my act together. Usually things work out. Thus, the "vibe" was more of my subconcious reminding me of something so I could deal with it. Was it "reliable"? Was it even a "vibe"? That's what it feels like to me...bad energy zapping me from some unknown source, a general sense of future crisis or calamity.

Years ago, I worked in an electronics store, average looking guy in regular clothes came in and asked to see an expensive scanner. Nothing unusual in his looks, expression, or language, but I instantly felt strongly repelled by him. I had an overwhelming sense that he was a scummy low-life for no apparent reason. It was almost as if he had cartoon stink lines in a halo around him. The instant I handed him the $400 scanner, he turned and ran out the door with it.
