Considering Zone alarm is just a firewall.

I have a question about AVG. My wife likes Pogo games and you have to download Java to run it but I downloaded the free AVG and when she goes to Pogo games, something I saw on the pogo chess site, the screen freezes several times per game which sucks when you play timed games. I removed AVG temporarily and the problem went away. Any ideas on how to have AVG and not interfere with Pogo games?

not so, afaik. The free version is only a firewall, and a good one. But the latest versions you can buy from ZoneLabs include av protection too.

Cheers.

The brute force solution is going to the systray and disable AVG before starting the game.
AVG is not aware of your machine being connected all the time to the web. In fact, AVG is only active while making a system scan, receiving emails, or downloading something. It also becomes active while u start a program.
If you are confident on the sanity of the game (or pgms) you are running, you can deactivate it.
Anyway, run AVG scan periodically.

My 2 cents.

Edit: remember to reactivate it when you exit the game/pgm.

I'm running AVG on this laptop, a differant machine than the one for pogo, and when I right click on the icon there is a line saying 'quit AVG control center'. Is that the one to click to turn it off temporarily? It brings up a screen that says you won't be able to manage components. Does that mean its turned off? It doesn't say unambiguously it goes off.
