In the weeks leading up to his death, Michael Jackson refused to sleep so that he could receive ideas for his This Is It concerts that God "channelled" to him at night
Insiders have revealed that during rehearsals for his This Is It comeback shows, a wound-up and exhausted Michael Jackson believed his increasingly extravagant ideas for his This Is It stage show were coming directly from God at night.
With the budget for the 50 performances at London's 02 Arena already busting $US24 million, the entertainer decided he wanted to recreate one of the world's largest waterfalls — Africa's Victoria Falls — on stage.
"We went and met with Michael, and Kenny [Ortega, the choreographer] said, 'Michael, you've got to stop. We've got an incredible show. We don't need any more vignettes,' " recalls Randy Phillips, president of the concert-promotion firm AEG Live. "Michael said, 'But Kenny, God channels this through me at night. I can't sleep because I'm so supercharged ... you don't understand — if I'm not there to receive these ideas, God might give them to Prince'".
