After resigning my game with Oceanwaves, I was challenged within 24
hours by another player with no completed games, no message as to
why they had decided to challenge me, and a few games in progress.
Sadly, my failing memory does not recall the user name, but I think it
was something like Jan Tipper-- if you're playing this person, that
should be close enough to ring a bell. I simply deleted the game-- if
anyone can vouch for the person, please post it here.

Hmm I don't know. Jan Timmer is a common name in Holland and
there is a fairly strong chessplayer named Timmer in Holland.
If it was AttilaChess reincarnated I think he would have preferred Jan
Timman! being the second best Dutch player of all times. The best is
of course Euwe, worldchampion 1935-1937!

If you mean me there is nothing to worry about. I'm just new here and
wanted to play some games. Now i read the forum just for interest and
i read this. Hmm not the best start to play here. Sorry for that. But i
didn't now how to do things here on RHP. I have changed my settings
so that's something. If you don't want to play me that's ok with me.
Sorry for making any trouble. c ya

Good stuff Jan - I'm sure Tim will be willing to play you once you have a few games under your belt
- but if you know him, you'll know that he hates losing his points!

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty damn sure that Jan Timmer is NOT a
computer user. So far, our game seems to be simply human vs.
human. Again, my apologies to Jan, who was gracious enough to
accept my challenge to a new game.

That's the problem, Tim. Most of us aren't always able to tell if we're
playing a human or a program. That is especially true in the first few
moves, when we still have the option to delete a game.

I have played quite a few games here at RHP, and during that time I
have only ended up playing against a program one time (that I know
of), and I wasn't even aware of it then until my "opponent" told me
about it after I resigned.

I had already played a few 'real' games against this person, winning
some and losing some. In the program game I was aware that his
playing style seemed rather different than in his earlier games, but it
didn't even occur to me that I wasn't playing him in that last game.

Needless to say, I won't be playing that person again.

I can play against a program anytime, without getting online. Most of
us came here to play chess with real people.

MY POINT IS:
If we all start getting paranoid about every new person who visits this
site, we will only end up running some good people away from RHP,
and we surely don't want to do that.

We will always have trolls and program users. They are an
insignificant minority and once we know who they are all we have to do
is ignore or boycott them and they will no longer be a problem.

Please accept my apologies, and challenge me to a new game. If you
read the forums, you will understand that there has been a program-
user on the board challenging people from the forums under different
user names, so when I received a challenge from an unknown player,
I was wary. But I also was afraid that I might be turning away a
potential new member of this community, and it seems that is, in fact,
what happened. Again, my apologies. Let's play, if you're still
interested. There are some great people here, I hope you don't think
any less of this place because of this incident.
Peace--
Tim
