I want find out when a ceratin domain name was first used.
I know how to find out the date it was registered and know about the internet way back time machine but is there a register of when a .com domain was first used for a web site?

Bit of a long shot and really not sure if this is what you're after exactly, but try here:-

Yes Mark, that's the sort of thing but as I said that just tells you who owns it and when they registerd it... not when it was first used.

I think the way back machine comes closest. I don't know any other sites/organisations keeping track of these things...

Yes I'm coming to that conclusion... I'm just not sure that if they haven't got records before, say 2001, if the site existed before then.

big change that the site existed before that. the websites I run also got spidered by the way back machine, but there's a few month hiatus between the sites going live and actually coming up in the WBM ...

depending on the number of sites linking to a new site, I think it might take 1-3 months before the WBM gets it.
