Someone please explain the rules of rugby. How does play continue once one is tackled? Is there a certain number of tackles you get per 'possesion'?

Agreed, as an American, I know nothing about rugby, but it does look like a fun game. Somebody want to give us an quick rundown? And No, I dont' feel like reading a wiki article on the subject.

No, you're just tackled- then you lose the right to hang onto the ball, so you are meant to place it behind you to give your team an advantage in continuing play.

Then any player coming in from behind the back foot of the group on the ground, and who stays on his feet can pick it up. It's a great sport. Give it a try (literally!).

That is an all-time classic there! Good choice. One of the greatest tries recorded on telly, certainly. And all the way back to 1973.

Munster beat the Black that year too, if I'm not mistaken.

Whatever happened to the babas?

Just to make things complicated - it depends on what type of rugby you're playing.

In rugby league, you have six tackles, after which you lose possession. Rugby union is different, you get to keep the ball as long as you can hold on to it (as explained above)
