The search, involving ships and planes from many nations, was part-suspended overnight, but aircraft with monitoring equipment continued to scour the sea.
The Air France Airbus was heading from Brazil to Paris when it disappeared.
France believes there is little hope of finding survivors from among the 228 passengers and crew aboard the flight.
Honestly, I think this is quite creepy. I mean, you are flying and suddenly nobody knows where a huge metal thing of hundreds of tons is.
How could this be?

It crashed into the ocean. It broke up. They're looking for the equivalent of grains of sand in a massive, deep and murky swimming pool, simple as that.
If so, how come they don't know where it crashed?
Inquiring, non-technical mind needs to know.

Awfully quiet for a terrorist attack. Terrorists generally like to make a public spectacle of their killings.
Brazilian airports are not as paranoid about terrorists as those in the US or Europe, potential terrorists could get in with bombs.
