Any worth their salt think outside the box or bun; continue to grow in personal and professional stature; see things that are in sharp focus; dream boldly of things that never were and say 'why not'; encourage innovation and resourcefulness; honor noble failure while punishing sloppy execution; solve impossible competitive challenges; overcome insurmountable obstacles; resolve sticky issues quietly; infuse the principle of loyalty down/loyalty up and spirit of teamwork daily; patiently take care of the short term in order to insure long term market staying power for the company; take the heat without distributing blame; absorb the daily shocks and sideways hits to enable subordinates to function productively, enjoy maximum job satisfaction and earn promotion; effectively lead the efforts of a team to deliver profits to the bottom line; then do it all again next year. Translation: Live overachieving corporate objectives. Stay sensitive to career interests/personal needs of your people. Set a tone of expectation which motivates them to climb out of warm beds, show up on time and do whatever it takes to take care of business.

could be in between the directors and the supervisors, or be supervisors themselves when there is no layer of foremen or supervisors.

changing world. Within effective organizations traditional formats have given

way to flex environments. Everybody with something timely or valuable to say

talks freely with anyone with an ear to hear or project vested reasons to listen.

It's little wonder your apparently rigid throwback experience has left you cynical.

I was just thinking the other day about Miracle Whip. They have a commercial "A blend of spices, we will not tone it down".

Funny, I can't think of many spices I don't like. All I know is anyone who asks if you want Mayo and gives you Miracle Whip should be shot!~
