Actually using discipline as a form of motivation is the old school way of parenting. It is psychologically shown to motivate to not do bad things but it doesn't motivate to do good things. It can even keep you away from doing good things! 😲

Ex: you have a child who likes to play in the toilet. Every time he does this you slap his hand and tell him, "no no!" now when you go to potty train him it will be much harder because he thinks that being around the toilet is a "no no" so the best form of motivation is a reward based system. If you refrain from getting mad when your child does something bad and reward them when they do something good they WILL stop doing the bad things and start doing good things. Its simple. Kids seek attention so they do whatever is needed to get attention.

Using discipline is ok as long as it is not too harsh and delivered in a timely fashion. You also have to make sure the kid knows exactly what he is being disciplined for.
