I suppose it all depends on the definition of "sports car", but I had an Austin Healey Sprite roadster, the first year they came out. A "British green, frog-eyed Sprite". A couple of years later they looked just like MG Midgets. No trunk. You folded up the canvas top and stuffed it behind the two seats. The plexiglas windows bolted on and you also stuffed them behind the seats. There were no outside door handles. You reached into the car and pushed down on a wire to unlatch the doors. The canvas top had a strange way of fastening into a channel beneath the windshield, with clips at each end to keep it in place. Now and then when one passed a tractor-trailer rig the top would pop open in the middle with a sound like a shotgun exploding in your face, and if it was raining you were instantly soaked. The car was as cold as an icebox in the wintertime, and keeping the engine in tune was a fulltime job all year around. But I loved it! I wish I still had it! On a summer's night there was nothing more fun than zipping around country roads with the top off, the windows off, the warm air blowing through your hair, the smell of the farm fields, and a pretty girl squeezed into the passenger's seat!
