So what is it with airlines that can change the prices of tickets at random for no reasonable reason explanation other than they can. Who the heck regulates this crap? One second it's one price 2 seconds later it's another price. It's one price for 1 person per ticket, it's a seperate (usually higher) price for 3 people per booking and yet MORE money to book even more people? That just makes no sense to me. The price should be the price should be the price! And if anything the more people you are booking the cheaper the price should be....no more! I can't believe they get away with such mind boggling rules of conduct.

You have to sit there and watch the price of the flight fluctuate for days, ideally for about five airlines at once, and then, when the time seems right, you JUMP!

Also, look for the airline which will fly you the greatest amount of unnecessary distance, with maximum waiting about in irrelevant airports and consumption of fuel. They will have the cheapest tickets. I've gone London-Boston via Halifax and Toronto on Air Canada for $100 less than London-Boston direct would cost on Virgin, for example. If you're going to Florida, see if it can be done via Timbuktu; that will probably minimise your spending.
Finally, don't use online booking agencies; go directly through the airlines. To see why, ask Maddox:

It's just that in this process I'm amazed to see how fickle these airlines and their priceing policies can be. There's just no rhyme or reason for them. How can a plane ticket be one price one minute then another price another minute then another price yet a minute later again?

My friend seems to think that each time we search on a particular flight they can see how many times this flight is being considered and then up the price. Is that possible that they do this? Either way however they do it you would think there would be more regulations on the pricing flux that they seem to have going on.

Remind what this thread was about? Wasn't it you whining about airline tickets?
