Also i can't believe what some of you are saying, cause Federer hasn't won a major this year his career is over? He's only 27and he was half of maybe the greatest match ever played only a month ago. So if Roddick wins the open are we gonna proclaim him the best and say Nadal and Fed And Djokovic should retire? Lets get some perspective and look beyond whoever just won the last big event, there are 3 guys at the top. Nadal is obviously # 1 but i don't think he will win the US open.
But which Djokovic will show up at the US Open? Will it be the one who drubbed Nadal 6-1 in the first set in Cincinnati, or the one who lost twice to Andy Murray in consecutive weeks?
Originally posted by RandyFlaggSorry, but even as much as Murray has improved, he is no Rafa Nadal. The key point is that Djokovic seems to enjoy being the underdog in big matches. When it's his turn to be the favorite, he sometimes struggles. Witness the high unforced error count [50+] in the Murray match.

1. I'm only saying Federer should consider retiring IF he has another grandslamless (?) season (Note: 1 season = 4 grand slams). i mean, considering that as such a high ranking, if he can't even win a grand slam, then it looks like his career is reaching its end
2. 27 is pretty old for a singles player. i mean, compared to Nadal (21?) it looks like Fed's only going to go down and Nadal has more space to go up
3. And finally, i guess when i say retire, i don't mean like full on no more tennis, it's just that i mean that his reign over tennis is gone. if he can't make a reappearance then i think it will be over for Fed
4. As far Djokovitch, i still think that Nadal's skills are better, Djokovitch does seem to flail under pressure sometimes and also i think Nadal is just more consistantly known. This not only makes it seem that Nadal is better, but also the psychological effect of it, which we are complaining that Djokovitch lacks resistance to, also can cause some damage. If Djokovitch can cure this mental choking on the court, i guess he is contender against Nadal in the later years. i still like Nadal better though, he's a somewhat gracious winner and loser, Djokovitch on the other hand....

Ragarding the US Open, I think Federer, Nadal and Roddick are all better choices to win than Djo.

Originally posted by SwissGambitI am not sure. That is the one tourney he desperately loves to play, as did his coach Jimmy Connors. If there is anyway to be play, I believe he will.

For each of these players their performances in the majors were, in any given year, hit and miss. If Federer gets serious, gets a coach, and dedicates himself he can win another handful of majors before the end of his career.
I don't think he will retitre and the end of the year. I said I think he should.
But I also don't think he will win another Grand slam.
