I'm stuck between 2 choices as the decision comes. For my life work.

Whilst I am interested and like physics, and see the possibility for working as an astrophysicst, then possibly as a specialist on a space mission. Very cool I think. In Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the physics professor was/is a ranked chess player. However physics and chemisty are not my strongpoint.

Meanwhile, I am excellent at writing. It's a natural talent I think as I do not study it. I have written essays which have impressed my AP History teacher who had, previously, NEVER given a perfect score on an essay - but I just got 1 - that actually meritted extra credit. Meanwhile, in my literature classes, year by year I have excelled beyond most students, my writing has impressed many teachers. Today, my Literature teacher wrote me telling me I have very strong insight into writing / literature. But it is a natural talent because I dedicate amazingly little time to History / Literature. I do not like to study history (and essays intimidate me) - but neither would I BELIEVE that I would enjoy making writing my profession. Thing is, I have gotten many hints these past few weeks that make me fill I would be very successful in this field. But I do not know what kinda job I would do.

SO: I like the physics field and it inspires me but I am not talented in the subject. VS. I am good at the writing / Arts and am sure I would make a name for myself in that field, but it does not inspire me.

PLEASE! Where should I head. I am GOOD and writing but it is not a PASTIME. Whilst I LIKE Physics but it is not a TALENT.

Recently, I have begun to think, head NASA, and take up writing as a minor and write on free time...If NASA fails, writing surely might work...

Trust me, I've had alot of clues telling me writing is the way to go. It's screwing with my head as I have told many that I am majoring in Physics. 1/2 year to decide. WHICH PATH MUST I TAKE??

Seriously, I need good advice, not biased. I'm kinda split.

Well, you can write no matter what else you do with your life. Why not try to get into nasa and then, if it doesnt happen, you will have the writing to fall back on.

In fact, it might even give you inspiration for a story.

Go to a school guidance counselor. Don't take advice from a bunch of chess dweebs.

But my advice is not that of a mere mortal, so you are alright to accept my words.

Read some of this guys books. It might lead down a wonderful adventurous path. Why do you feel that it has to be one or the other?

Your path will change directions many times in your life. I wouldn't get too awfully involved with what you think you'll be doing decades from now. Do what is most fulfilling to you today.

These advices are too vague. Mine gives you the most logical option to persue, and allows your mind to be at peace because you are not giving up on either one of your two favourite hobbies.

Strange, though, how chess did not get a mention there.

I dont think it is still politically correct to use the term "dinosaur". I prefer Terrible Chess Playing Lizard - the literal translation of my name.

Yes, this was what I was thinking. However, I plan to talk to the college counselor to discuss...

I believe I can take up writing as a hobby, and physics as my profession. If writing were to boom as a success, then perhaps I even make more moolah 🙂

So, in a way, you had also come to this conclusion but hopefully now this will help cement your deciscion.

Dont forget, most people will try and dissuade you from having anything to do with writing and will only be intrested in a "proper" job (I.E. something to do with Physics) but dont be afraid to stick it to the man and take up the writing full time if you ever think for a moment that you are unhappy with a white collar job.

I agree with doing both. You need something that will put food on the table and allow you to live where there's indoor plumbing and football on TV. These are important things. I majored in writing and thoroughly enjoyed my courses, except the one taught by a moron. But that's not what is paying for the catfood at the moment.

Keep the pen, as writing approaches infinity.
