Hi all. I had a new BT line installed into my house the other day and i now need to sign up to a Broadband contract. Problem is, i know nothing about what's on offer. Who should i go with? I don't need to make big downloads, so the bandwidth doesn't need to be 10 meg, but i do want unlimited downloads. Is anyone on a particularly good deal?? ๐

By all accounts though, steer clear of TISCALI! They have reasonable deals, but their customer support is p1ss poor, bordering on shocking.
Originally posted by jimslyp69I agree with the customer service of Tiscali, it sucks balls, but my service provision with them has been fine for the last year.

I'm with BT Broadband, but that's mainly because I used to work for them so I get a rather nice employee discount and have a fair few inside contacts who sort me out whenver I've got a problem.

I'm with Virgin at the moment but I've just signed up to Talk Talk.
Free Broadband forever!

edit; and that's 8mb [and 50GB d/l I think]

Talktalk is cheap, but as with most things in life there is a REASON why it's cheap.
Their service is great if you're a standard "online shopping and check your e-mails" kind of user but my advice is to stay well clear of them if you doing any kind of gaming, uploading, p2p or share your connection with other machines.
Originally posted by marinakatombIt's costing me £20.99 per month but that includes the £11 landline charge you would pay to BT. The "fair usage" policy is better than some others including Virgin who I'm moving from; and the "throttling" is if you are downloading loads from p2p sites they make you do it at night, it seems.

At that price it'll do for me.

James,
Stay away from TalkTalk (for a million reasons). They block all p2p throughout the day, the speed is inadequate and the helpline (which you will need cost 50 pence a minute) ...
There are some decent 'cheap' ones out there but to be honest, I would go with BT ... You pay a little more, but the service is first class (and for free) and although they advertised a capped max. bandwith per month (I think its 40GB at the moment) they never really downgrade your line anyway (and 40GB is a lot to download in a month) ...
Hope that helped a little
Boris

Will be switching to BT they offer better service and cheaper rate. Have a look at their site.
Call customer services and threaten to leave - they will give you a better deal.
