I have a few questions...

1. An online shop you could recommend.
2. A method to learn to play it.
3. Spare and maintenance stuff I should bare in mind.
4. Anything else you consider worth knowing.

Thanks!

🙂

You need a good teacher. Learning the sitar is considered a good reason to move to India for seven years, which is about how long it takes. Can you play any other instruments?

You have to join this clan: Clan 281. They're Indian, (not the bows and tomahawks kind), so they must know how to play SITARS, in fact, I'd be surprised if you didn't get a SITAR along with a religious voyage into your consciousness on entry into the clan.

Tell them Speaks with Walls sent you. That's my Indian name. (not the Ravi Shankar and spin bowling kind)

or, you can plug the sitar-box between your guitar and amp, and spend the 7 years in sleazy bars drinking beer.

You?
Cowboy guitar, singing.

The sitar is a devil of an instrument. You might consider something else, like the sarod.

Actually I am thinking of either getting my hands on a Jupiter trumpet and get serious with it again, or change for something really new... like the sitar.

I suck at chord instruments but know the basics of wind ones... I acknowledge I will never be a musician and I will always suck, so I want to have fun learning something new.

Yeah, I've been told that, but winter is coming in Finland and I desperately need something interesting to do during captivity instead of swimming in beer...

... mmm... beer...

well, going back to the issue, have you tried learning sitar?

No. Six strings are challenging enough when you have ten thumbs.

Learn the harmonica and be the envy of your neighbours.

Are there any specifically Estonian instruments?

1. Buy a cheap one from eBay - e.g. Item#200038553514
When you're bored after 2 months you won't have wasted too much money.

2. Spend the time waiting for your sitar to arrive by looking at photos of Mr Sharma, proprietor of Radha Krishna Sharma & Co.
