I remember a line in "The Search for Bobby Fischer" where Ben Kingsly asks Josh why Black was the better color. I don't remember what he said...

Anybody fill me in?

And is Black, really... the better color?

Actually... white is ALL of the colors and black is no color.

yup yup.... white is all the "colors(wave lengths uv-ir)" reflecting from the surface hitn' yer eye ballz... and black is the object your looking at absorbing light... hence black objects getting hotter than white ones in the sun... they are absorbin' mo energy.

In that particular scene, Bruce (Ben Kingsley) was giving Josh (Max Pomeranc) a lesson in end games. He set up a specific position on the board and the following conversation insued:

Bruce: "Why is black better? Take your time."
Josh: "White has more pawn islands."
Bruce: "What's white's greatest liability (he may have said "weakness" instead)?"
Josh: "The isolated pawn. Only the king can save it."
Bruce: "Good."

And that is why black is better ... in that particular game.
