Why do so many open invites have the "subscribers only" request? I mean why does it matter if the opponent is a subscriber or not?
Ok I can understand any "no provisional players" requests that appear, because there is a fair chance of playing an opponent who's "real" rating far outways the 1200 or so of provisional players. (Even if this is partly accounted for in the rating loss/gain.) But...
I fail to understand why not having a star against the name should be a reason to delete/refuse to play an opponent? ok possibly the chance that as they are not subscribed they may leave the game part of the way through, but in most cases this is not the case. if thats the only reason then they will be timed out. So...
Why make open invites for "Stars" only?

Why make open invites for "Stars" only?
I'm one of those who often requests "Subscribers only" in my open invites.
1)Because subscribers are committed to the site and are more likely to play the game faster.
2)Because nonsubscribers often make a couple of moves then leave and let the game timeout.
3)Because nonsubscribers are often some kind of wannabes who shout (whit caps lock) during the game things like "GOTCHA","I'LL CRUSH YOU"as soon as they are up a piece.
4)Because nonsubscribers are often some kind of cretins who shout (whit caps lock) things like F*** YOU"as soon as they lose a piece.
5)Because if you ask for playing subscribers they (non subs) will pick up the game and delete it just to piss you off.
Obviously this doesn't apply to all nonsubs but I had this kind of troubles more with freeloaders hence my request to play subscribers ONLY!

Originally posted by abejnoodI disagree. His point about non-subs leaving mid-game, wasn't the only reason Ravello chooses to play subscribers. I shall refer you to his post to find other reasoning on this subject.

Originally posted by NordlysThe fact is that if you have 40 games going you are more likely to be online and playing than a non sub who has only 6 games going.
I wonder if that's true on average. I certainly played a lot faster before I subscribed, because I couldn't play more than six games.
The non sub plays his six moves and if no one is online will log out and move the next day or later, the subscriber is more likely to move everyday and online more often during the day.
Originally posted by abejnoodI see what you're saying. However, I've noticed that people don't like to lose money. maybe its me, but I thought this to be true for most. So why would someone spend money to play here and abruptly leave. I know people do decide to leave occasionally *cough no1marauder cough*, but they are few and far in between. so, the odds are against it.

ok i can understand that this would piss you off (as it would me) but you can check these before fully comitting to the game by viewing the opponents profile & past/present games. So why not ask for "Serious/fast players please"?

Are people really that bad? I have never come across this. Granted I have not played all that many opponents but the worst I have come across is purely ignorant hick-deads who wont even reply to a "Welcome and Good Luck".
5)Because if you ask for playing subscribers they (non subs) will pick up the game and delete it just to piss you off.
Many subs simply delete games when accepted by nonsubs without even giving the opportunity to show that they are not this type of cretin, or explanation as to why!
& I can kinda understand the "supporting the site" angle but if Russ doesn't have a problem with it, why should anyone else? He could make payment mandatory if he really wanted to.
Originally posted by RavelloI personaly am on line at least 5-6 times a day (often far more). My point was mostly because i am waiting for opponents (many of whom are subs) to make their move and go look for an open invite only to be confronted with rows of "stars only" beside the few rating based games i can actually accept 😞

When you will have played 2000+ games like me you will have a more defined opinion about subs and non subs habits.......
