i think that is because there are few national states left with any pride of mission so there are few "patriots" and hence little discussion...if
what you most contemplate is your vacation and your magazine
subscription you tend to sneer at those who believe that a national
state can do something of value besides just set up banking and
pave nice roads...

no..i believe the french remember their rich past and that is about the
extent of their patriotism...the australians have a sense of national mission...they have stood with the americans in every conflict that
america has ever found itself in and i expect that will continue...
