Stuff happens whether you're good or bad. It's called life. Being good in word and deed is no insurance against bad things happening to you. Being good is unconditional. You don't look for any return. You are good out of love. No one ever said life was fair.

I've often wondered why bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people. That goes against the "Cosmic Law of Karma."
Some events happen in a random fashion to random people. Life, I'm afraid is a double roulette wheel, at leasr in part.
I do think the rule of Karma does work to some degree, but mostly in events that are sequential in nature.

Sometimes good and bad happens for a reason, sometimes it doesn't. But not really. There's always a reason for why anything happens to anyone at anytime or anywhere.
But maybe, just maybe, there may be a being that knows all the reasons for everything that ever happened to anyone at anytime and anywhere.
