I understand, RTH. I just had one die of old age about a year ago. Part chow and something else. Looked like a small chow but wasn't a purebred. Loved riding in the pickup. Guarded everything on our property. Hunted rabbits like it was her life's work. Absolutely understood me when I talked to her and had a way of wrinkling her nose and lips that really looke ...[text shortened]... to the road. In a little while they came back walking side by side and looking smug as hell.
Dang! Quite a cat you have!
My wife’s cat would have stood there leaning up against a door post chewing a tooth pick like it is prone to do, while my dog fought for its life.
Sorry to hear about your dog though. It’s sad to lose a good friend like that. Dogs are better than people in so many ways. I’ve never caught a dog lying, except for my wife’s basset hound that is.

Doggoneit, now youse 2 got me pining for me old pal Tailor. Side by side nearly 24/7/365 for 12 years. Gone 2 years now and I still find myself looking for him in the mornings....:'(

... and I think you may be right, it's a once in a lifetime relationship.

Yep it's tough. The routine. You do it for such a long time and never think about it till it's time to feed em' or let them out and stuff. It sucks! I put down my pal of 13 years just over a year ago and I still miss him. The new pup seems to fill the gap but not the memory that's for sure.

LOL! I can just picture Garfield doing that, chewing on a toothpick and making a side bet on the action.

That's life.
New memories to be made with the pup is something to look forward to.
Guess you're not a fisherman, eh?
When it's an empty next here for more than 2 hours I'm on the water!😀

It's been a year and I still expect to see Rusty ready to jump up into the pickup cab and go to town. Can't quite bring myself to look for another dog...

I can remember my grandfathers, both farmers, telling about how long they put off getting their first tractors just because they were worried that their dogs wouldn't follow along in the fields like they did with the horses.

I just go out and get a new pup. I know it sounds bad, but it works for me. Otherwise I am an aimless wreck. Gotta have a dog.

I should do that.... maybe I will before summer's over. You've got me thinking about it anyway. Always felt more comfortable out here in the sticks when there was a good watchdog on the place.

Did you know that thats the reason the Thistle is the national emlblem of Scotland.

Apparently there was a bunch of Danish (i think) sneaking up on the Scottish camp at night, and they walked through a patch of thistles, and the noise of them being stung alerted the Scottish troops.

Go Thistles 🙂
