ah ok np 🙂 I dunno why but I love proving people wrong it's something I love doing.. gives me great satisfaction.. I should have been a solicitor. Also after 7 years of training I feal a like i've accompished something that im very proud of. Thats 7 years of training.. and if I was to add on the learning I've done under my own steam it would be over 10 years

my original post was a sarcastic/joke response to the thread.. since i felt like the guy was trying to show off.. and jealousy will get you nowhere in life.

if you mean me, no i certainly wasn\t trying to show off. but i suppose i was feeling proud of myself for having managed to set up a bit of techno-wizardry - not my strong suit, and not easy for an old retired cartoon police officer. was so happy to be online again that i had to tell someone...

Can I encourage you to change your workgroup name from the default and also ensure your LAN is password protected, otherwise people in your local area can use your network without paying. Just a simple precaution to take 🙂

thanks, i'm sure that's good advice, but to be honest i don't mind if someone in the flat downstairs or wherever can get online for free

And downloads a dialler and pumps your bill up by 200 quid. Also could look at all of your personal details, bank details etc.

but i'm not into this whole culture of fear thing. i have no reason to think my neighbours are criminals.

It doesn't have to be your neighbours dude. It could be anyone outside with a laptop and a wireless network card in it. There are criminals out there that take advantage of these security loopholes so it is worth taking simple measures. It costs nothing and is well worth while doing. Anyway lecture over.
