I guess I am, or I should say "was" a slightly more than average Star Wars fan but I and II were just trainwrecks to me. I think the dialog was horrible and the acting was even worse (the guy playing Anakin is pretty unwatchable and there is no way to me he could some how transform into Vader). If anyone out there thinks I am mistaken please let me know. I am curious to hear your arguement.

However, they propelled the special effects ahead no end, and had some great scenes.
Episode 3 will be good, if only because they are integrating Episode 4 into it digitally.
Originally posted by D43M0NI agree with you as far as the effects go for I and II. They were fantastic but in a way, because they eclipsed the technology for creating these effects by such a great margin, I almost think they do a disservice to 4,5 and 6. I absolutely hated I and only liked II a little more because I was so awful. So if the same holds true, I will like III because I and II were bad. For me, what made the original triology so great was the characters with the effects as a great compliment. Now it seems like the characters are only secondary and Jar Jar should have died a very unpleasant death by now. Hopefully he will be viciously murdered in the opening credits of E III.

II was the only one I never saw in a theater... I waited a year cuz I heard it sucked so bad, and finally watched it.
I thought it was very good, as far as a story goes. I expected nothing from it, and I really enjoyed it. Most movies I must go into expecting them to suck, and only then can I enjoy them. I expected too much from episode I... and spent too much money to watch it. If I rent it, I bet I'd enjoy it now... But Jar jar?! Why!? Why why why????

Originally posted by PhlabibitI have to disagree with you on Episode 1 and I really, really wanted it to be good. I couldn't into the premise at all probably because the dialogue was sooooo bad. The kid playing Anakin in Episode 1 was just beyond a horrible actor. I think I did the opposite of you and expected way too much. To me, Episode 1 and 2 are on the level of Godfather III or any of the Batman movies (and I had better not get started on either of those because I am trying to keep hope alive for "Batman Begins"😉. 🙂

Originally posted by nemesioIf you go to starwars.com, there were showing the trailer and they (at least in the promo) show Luke asking Ben (Sir Alec Guiness) about his dad. Hopefully they will do that because that would add a lot of depth that I think this new triology is missing.
What do you mean Episode 4 will be in Episode 3?

I like episode I and I love episode II.
I'm sceptically optimistic that episode III might be the best of the lot!
I don't like children in movies. Full stop. So, a child Anakin was slightly annoying. That spoiled some of episode I for me.
But the whole concept of how the emperor comes to power, the bureaucratic frustrations and political wranglings...I love it!
As for the dialogue being hammy...
"I don't like you either. You just watch yourself. We're wanted men. I have the death sentence on twelve systems."
"I don't know who you are or where you've come from, but from now on you'll do as I say, okay?"
"Listen to them, they're dying, R2. Curse my metal body. I wasn't fast enough. It's all my fault. My poor master."
"Artoo says that the chances of survival are 725 to 1. Actually Artoo has been known to make mistakes... from time to time... Oh dear..."
See...
I'm afraid the dialogue's always been a bit dodgy. But that's not what sci-fi is about!
I read quite a nice defense of Lucas for the Episode I and II movies on the IMDB website.
Now I am a major Star wars fan, have the VHS editions, Dvd editions, most of the toys, etc. But there was a guy saying that people have become much more choosy today than they used to be. Look at it. If star wars IV-VI had to be released today, with modern actors, and digital effects, they would be slaughtered by critics, poor acting, big plot holes(Surely Vader, Sith lord and pretty clued up guy would realise his wife had twins, let alone that she was pregnant, why did he happily let both of them go away and not look for them). To me the major thing that made Star Wars so great was that up until then no one had really taken a good space story and set it out with as much creativity as Lucas did.
He then thought he could get away with the same sort of thing 20 years later and gets shot down in flames.
Disconnect them from the first ones and the last 2 that he brought out aren't to bad, I think a lot of what ruined it for me was cheesy effects which I thought were chucked in to appeal to people who hadn't watched the first ones, but as the first 2 movies in a trilogy they do stand alone, something that I am greatful for.
