I tried the beta and it worked great.
Just installed the RC yesterday. Looks good and FAST!

I saw a video posted on LifeHacker (the best site on the InterWebz, if you don't know about it) about the user state migration tool for XP->Win7.

And its faster then vista, but is it as big? Could it work on my 1mb workmemory laptop?
I have my laptop already setup in dual boot mode. One side partitioned to run XP and the other was running vista sp1.
When I did the install, it saved every file, program and setting I had in vista and made sure it was the same for Windows7. All the way down to the wallpaper. This was done automatically. The kicker is you need to have already installed vista sp1 to have this work.
BTW If your system was not meant to run Vista, you won't be able to run Windows 7.
Originally posted by zozozozoWell what I am seeing initially is, the boot time is slightly improved, but once the system is up, My start up programs load much faster. updates aren't dragging down the system at all. There are a few very nice added "pretty" touches that are nice, such as the rotating desktop background. and themes. Images are crisp, (one of the very few things I like about vista), when scrolling over your start bar, icons, it will show you what programs you have open via a small window, that is easy to recognize.
Ok, ty.
My 1mb laptop came with Vista on it. Added was a folder with some information, saying it was adviced to use Vista only on computers with 2 or more mb workmemory^^
Less than 24 hours and so far so good.

Also, drag & drop onto the taskbar programs should've been there from the start. About time they got that working. Just hold Shift while dragging an item, dropping it on a taskbar program will use that program to open the file.
It looks awesomely snazzy and runs very smooth. MS might have their best OS ever here.
IMHO they should have made a proper upgrade path from XP to 7, but I understand why they didn't.

$$$$$$?😛
They argue that Vista has security and other structures etc. in place that would've taken too long to re-program for a XP upgrade path, and they want to get this OS out ASAP.
They needed this OS to be good and make people forget about the Vista debacle.
Originally posted by CrowleyReading up a bit, they have removed a lot of items that were truly unnecessary. bogging down vista. I would love to see any outside software to go for the Xp-->7 file conversion if Microsoft doesn't so this.

Originally posted by KJCavalierI'm sure there are companies out there who would pay good money to have a tool like that.

Me? I'm happy, because most of my clients have been waiting with XP where they were able to - so win7 will make me money when everybody wants to upgrade next year...
