Windows Shut Down Problem

I use a HP Compaq nx9110 Laptop running Windows XP SP2 and each time I click Shutdown from the start menu, the computer reboots instead of shutting down. I re-installed the Windows but the problem persists. I cannot shutdown without pressing the power button. Can anyone help?

Just before you shutdown, insert a non bootable floppy in the a drive.
Then when the PC boots, it will stop when it tries to boot the floppy. Then proceed with power button at your own leisure. Not ideal I admit, but when you use Windows you have to expect a few work arounds!

This indicates a system failure. Best solution is to stop using Windows.


Or press the power button.

Try this;
click - Start/control panel/power options/advanced tab/in the power buttons section, in the three drop down menus set them to the desired action. Apply/ok.

I think its months since I shut down my laptop. I just close the lid when I'm done...
