Wireless Labtop Connection

I got this Labtop which has a virus on it and I want to reinstall everything on it. I know how to install Xp and other stuff but I'm not sure how you set up the wireless internet connection on it.

With my normal pc's I got to internet ->connection ->lan setting and put the port in but I don't think that would work with this labtop since it's newer and has the wireless connection.

Can someone help me please.

If you have the original restore disk that came with the computer, you shouldn't have a problem. Put XP on first, and then run the restore disk.

I don't have the restore disk. I've never heard of those either but I think I know what they do 🙂

I got xp with it and some other software cd's.

You must've got a recovery disc when you bought the Laptop, if the wireless connection was on the laptop when you got it, it should part of the recovery disc.

Do you have a "Wireless network setup wizard" under programmes at all?

It has wireless but it also should have a spot for a regular internet connection. You may want to configure your regular connection with a wire first, just to establish an internet connection on that computer. I went through some of this somewhat recently but didn't write any of it down. It was a pain; I remember that part!

If the laptop is somewhat new (a few years) the recovery system may
recide on the computer harddrive. Then you would have a program installed
which allows you to restore the entire computer to it's original factory
settings without even looking at a CD.

Of course, only recent laptops of certain manufacturers have this.

I think i'm just going to send it to my uncle and let him deal with it. He fixes computers but he's busy at the moment.

The labtop is my sisters. She got it in 2002 from Univ. with a bunch of programs, brand new. Then of course, had to get cd/dvd ripers and the likes and it got wrecked. Each time she brings it back during holidays it's more messed up.

I rememeber fixing it intially and it had 19-22 programs running and now this year it has a whoping 65!!! It's beyond me. Won't even run anything, keeps freezing, both batteries are shot (won't hold the charge) argg....

Norton Antivirus is the worst antivirus program on the market. Not worth a dime! Norton Ghost is the only good product that they make. If you want good antivirus and are willing to pay get Kaspersky. If you aren't will to pay, get AVG.

The rest of your statement is accurate.

Do a little research on Norton and any Symantec product and you will find that I am right.

AVG won't be free as of January you know. There's an open source antivirus
(but I'm not willing to vouch for it, since I've only had it a week as of yet):

There's still an AVG FREE version : 7.5 😉

Once I dowloaded the exe.installation file to my desktop, I couldn't convince it to install, as instructed, on a "repair" basis.
I ended up uninstalling my previous AVG Free and then doing a fresh install of the new 7.5 from the exe. file on my desktop.
