I would say his clue was more advanced; yours I could understand, his I could not.

"aggravated" is a pointer to there being an anagram.

Thank you. Last night or so I nearly came up with one where I would have used "scrambled" in the clue to indicate an anagram, and I remember which five letters were involved, but I don't remember the rest of the word I had in mind at the time.

P.S. -- recently while checking Amazon just for books containing cryptic crosswords to be solved, I also saw that there were some books on how to solve them, including one by Colin Dexter himself! I'm glad the British (and members of the Commonwealth) went in their own clever direction with crosswords back in the day.

Also, since manners don't seem to be a consideration in The Shire šŸ˜‰ I will remind everyone that I did come up with a new one without waiting for Paul's confirmation (this one is probably too easy for you lot):

Pause in the desert to consider not quite an orifice and not quite a flirt:

_ _ _ I _ _

Could this could pose a bit of a riddle?

Easiness like beauty is subjective ... I'm stumped on this!

Maybe this clue will help:

Not quite global with a nearly unlucky end.

I haven’t a clue here? The only connection I can make from 2 of the clues is Cat? Thought of the desert and the sphinx.

Oh sht! Is that it? 😮

"Sphinx" is correct!

Sorry for what might have been a bad puzzle.

Your turn. šŸ™‚

(Orangutan's 'riddle' reference was rather clever).
